Position Summary

Are you ready to make a difference? As a Facilities Technician , you will play a vital role in maintaining our campus and ensuring a safe, welcoming environment for everyone. This full-time, benefits-eligible position involves a variety of maintenance tasks, from minor repairs to supporting special events. Join us in creating a vibrant community!

Primary Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Penland Facilities and Grounds team to ensure smooth daily operations.
  • Manage operational work orders through our work order management system.
  • Perform maintenance tasks, including plumbing, minor electrical work, HVAC, and carpentry.
  • Assist fellow facilities & grounds employees as needed.
  • Maintain inventories of essential supplies like light bulbs and plumbing materials.
  • Participate in the on-call team for weekend and after-hour emergencies.
  • Help maintain and operate the school’s water system.
  • Attend regular meetings to stay aligned with team goals.
  • Proactively identify and recommend solutions for safety and health issues within the community.
  • Support campus needs for special events and activities.
  • Assist in the inspection and maintenance of life safety systems.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors as needed.
  • Provide daily updates to the director on project progress and concerns.
  • Help with the annual Fourth of July pyrotechnics display.
  • Assist with winter snow removal from sidewalks and parking areas.
  • Support the processing of hazardous waste.
  • Serve as essential staff during emergencies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Experience in general facility maintenance and equipment repair is required.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage a varied workload and solve problems.
  • Team player with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of building trades (carpentry, mechanical, electrical, drywall, roofing, painting) is preferred.
  • Familiarity with hand tools and power machinery.
  • Understanding of safe operating procedures for heavy equipment.
  • Prior experience in vehicle and equipment maintenance is a plus.
  • Ability to organize and schedule preventive and routine maintenance tasks.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Basic computer knowledge; experience with Microsoft Office and Google Suite is preferred.
  • Certification in first aid and CPR is preferred (training provided annually).
  • Valid driver’s license and clear motor vehicle screening required.
  • A good sense of humor and a hands-on philosophy are essential!

Physical Demands

This role requires occasional sitting and computer work, frequent use of tools, and the ability to lift and move objects over 50 pounds. You will also need to work in various weather conditions and sometimes handle hazardous materials.

Compensation
