Senior Principal Thermal Mechanical Engineer

Our Network HW engineering team provides definition, design, analysis, prototype, sourcing & the debugging and validation of layouts or routes to deliver state-of-the-art products for a changing world. The Thermal Mechanical Engineer position will design and deliver the development of innovative and compliant thermal design solutions for our Server & Network switches and peripherals. We work closely with designers, cross-functional teams within Dell Technologies and suppliers to make sure our Network Switch designs meet a range of requirements, including schedule, feature set, functionality and quality, as well as industry standards.

What you’ll achieve

As a Thermal Mechanical Design Engineer on our Network Hardware Engineering team, you will be a vital member of our cross-functional engineering development team, you will be instrumental in delivering advanced air and liquid cooling solutions for Network Switches for AI, HPC, and enterprise server markets. Your primary responsibility will be to lead the thermal design of liquid cooling components, ensuring the creation of innovative and highly reliable solutions.

You will:

  • Design heat transfer surfaces and coolant flow paths for cold plates
  • Design coolant distribution solutions within the loop for parallel flow solutions and support cooling network sizing
  • Develop concepts for new innovative cold plate concepts and establish feasibility
  • Collaborate with mechanical engineering for design tradeoffs in the cold plate design, ensure designs are manufacturable and highly reliable
  • Design & Validate Air cooling solutions

Essential Requirements

  • 12+ years industry experience or equivalent skill; must include 6+ years in a thermal engineering role or equivalent skill
  • Advanced working knowledge in cold plate design, internal fluid dynamics, heat transfer, electronics cooling, various fans and heatsinks
  • Experience with optics cooling and OCP Orv3 DLC is a plus
  • Advanced experience in thermal simulation with Icepak/Flotherm, and Creo / Solidworks
  • Work closely with ODM to ensure the thermal solution meet technical requirements and review the design with the cross-function team & shape the solution accordingly

Desirable Requirements

  • Advanced knowledge with liquid cooling and/or cooling distribution units
  • BS, MS or PhD Degree in Mechanical Engineering with emphasis on thermal science, fluid dynamics or heat transfer

Compensation

Dell is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The salary range for this position is $192,950-$249,700.
